So many of the companies which are into Android App Development Services wait each year for the new version of Android OS. On 6th August, 2018, Google has released the final version of its Android P operating system which was already previewed at the Google’s annual developer conference back in May 2018. This means that we are finally coming to know what P stands for. In keeping with Google’s dessertthemed naming convention for its mobile OS, the new OS is simply named Android Pie.
Android Pie has been rolled out in the Google’s own Pixel smartphones. Google Pie is a significant update from the previous OS, Android Oreo. The release of Android 9 or Android Pie was just a formality as Android P Beta 4 was really close to the final build. But this beta version was for developers and so many people have starting using Android Pie for the first time now with amazing new features. Most people are welcoming the OS’s new navigation system, screen-time controls, battery optimization and many privacy tweaks.
If you too want to take benefit from this latest Android Pie version, then Hire Android App Developer which can do the app development work for you. Here the thing to be noted is that Android Pie is here when Android Oreo is still on the less than 2% of all Android devices.
There is no doubt that Android Pie has brought a lot of visual changes. Just look at the home screen. It looks very similar to Android Oreo but there are many changes. The quick setting pane has received a complete makeover with nice rounded buttons for all the toggles that now look just like as in iOS.
We are using now Android Pie on a Google Pixel phone and we are going to take a look at all of the changes and new features in Android Pie.
Notifications have received major changes and notifications now support a more fresh and minimal look with attractive round corners everywhere. Also notifications will now be able to display images in the notification itself which makes it much easier to see what someone has sent in notification itself. Android Pie also supports smart replies in messaging apps and lets you save replies as drafts if it has been enabled by the developer.
If you look around Android App Development Companies in Dubai then you will find that Xicom is the best. It is into Android app development for so many years and understands all the cool features of Google Android Pie. In Android Pie, Google has also done changes in the way Android Pie handles animations. Now moving between apps has a side-to-side animation which looks very much like that on iPhone X. It almost looks that Google took these hints from Apple.
Android lacked a screenshot editor. Good thing is that Android Pie has an editor that is included right into the operating system internals. This feature or Markup brings a basic but fully capable image editor which lets you to crop, doodle or rotate screenshots and edit them accordingly. Thing to be noted is that, this editor is very similar to the screenshot tool which was introduced in iOS 11 by Apple.
The settings page has also been redesigned. This change has been so much overused by Google. It looks like as if it is on their todo list on permanent basis. This time the settings page has colored items all over the place and they do give a refreshing look and feel to what was earlier in a blue and white theme. Android Pie also blocked custom overlays making Substratum Themes useless. Still we can say that the settings page on Android P is almost an exact replica of the Flux White substrate or theme.
The lowpower mode was even creating confusion for Google as it has more than one names for same functions. Google was using at least two different names for the same thing i.e. it was called reduced power mode in the battery settings and battery saver in the quick settings. Battery saver mode can be set to automatically active when your phone’s battery value is anywhere between 5% and 70%. Many people get panicked even when their phone’s battery reaches 70%. Hence it was for them. Now the good thing is that the battery saver mode doesn’t turn the status and navigation bar orange anymore which is actually good as the earlier one looked terrible.
- ‘Notch’ is Now Fully Supported
Android Pie now supports displaycutout and Google has accepted that Android phones will now have notches. Android Pie developer’s preview even lets you visualize what different notches will look like and how the app interacts with them. You can also use it to know about what future Android smartphones will look like. It is no doubt a useful feature that Android users have been waiting to be have for so many years.
Google has introduced a totally new feature in Android Pie i.e. Lockdown. If you toggle the Lockdown mode on then your phone will not unlock even if someone tries to use your finger to unlock it while you are sleeping. It simply locks a fingerprint scanner. This is really cool and people will definitely like it and use it when they will start using Android Pie.
Android Pie brings to me another amazing feature which is support for Multiple camera API. It opens up new creative ideas in dual camera phones like accessing the camera free from both the lenses at the same time or getting a seamless zoom and even for getting stereoscopic shots from dual camera phones. Hence now Android app developers can use this feature to create some brilliant Android apps which will benefit the customers which use Android phones.
- Little features that matter
In Android Pie, the power menu now has a screenshot button, which is actually quite useful. The app info page gives the uninstall and force quit buttons and also the Do Not Disturb mode now doesn’t have priorities like Alarm only and for all etc.
For Android app developers, Android P has brought so many new features for example, apps in the background will no longer be able to access your camera mic or any of the other sensors on your phone, which is actually good thing for privacy reasons. Improvements have also been made to the Android runtime which will now result in better app performance with lower resource usage. Also apps can now use WiFi RTT to find out the user’s position.
Conclusion
In conclusion we can say that Android Pie is the best ever Android OS which has been released till date as it has great features. Android pie made the Android OS more attractive, more easy to use and offers opportunities for the developers to develop amazing Android apps. But Google will keep on releasing updates on Android Pie and further more new versions and we will be waiting for them too.
